NEWSFLASH: What’s Happening in Sun Valley!

Sun Valley’s peak season doesn’t end when the snow melts – it just shifts from the mountain to the trails, the music pavilions, and the world-class fairways. Whether you’re already locking in March 2027 for the World Cup Finals or building a summer itinerary around live music, world-class ballet, and the best Fourth of July in Idaho, here’s what’s on the Sun Valley calendar of events and how to make sure you have the perfect Sun Valley vacation rentals for it all.

AUDI FIS SKI WORLD CUP FINALS | Mar 20-25, 2027

Good news for ski racing fans: the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals are returning to Bald Mountain in March 2027, and our calendars are now open for bookings.

If you were here for the 2025 event, you already know the energy – the mountain packed with international spectators, downtown Ketchum buzzing from morning until late, and the world’s fastest alpine skiers competing at one of the best race venues in North America. If you missed it, March 2027 is shaping up to be even bigger and better!

This is the Super Bowl of Alpine ski racing. Only the top-ranked athletes in each discipline qualify, which means the field is as elite as it gets. Expect downhill, Super-G, Giant Slalom, and Slalom races across the week, all set against the dramatic backdrop of Bald Mountain.

Sun Valley has an excellent shuttle system for the event – so location isn’t everything – BUT, rentals within walking distance of the Warm Springs event area, downtown Ketchum, and Sun Valley Resort are the first to go. If World Cup racing is on your bucket list, secure your dates now and enjoy peace of mind.

Summer is around the corner and it’s one of Sun Valley’s best-kept secrets. The trails open up, wildflowers cover the hillsides, the live music starts, and somewhere between all of that, you’ll find yourself lacing up ice-skates in July! Only in Sun Valley! Here’s what’s ahead:

Golf & Pickleball: Open for the Season

Tee times are back. Bigwood Golf Course, Elkhorn Golf Course, and the Sun Valley Golf Courses are open for the season, and the views on every fairway are, frankly, unfair. Whether you’re a scratch golfer or someone who mostly appreciates the cart and the mountain air, this is a beautiful place to play. Pickleball courts are open at Sun Valley Resort, the Harker Center, and Atkinsons Park in downtown Ketchum. Grab a paddle, find a game, and enjoy the Sun Valley sunshine and mountain views.

Summer Swimming Pools

When the sun hits the Wood River Valley in summer, it hits properly — and Sun Valley has some of the best outdoor pool situations you’ll find anywhere in the mountains.

The Sun Valley Resort Olympic Pool opens in mid-June, and it’s worth planning around – an outdoor heated pool with Bald Mountain views that turns a warm summer afternoon into something genuinely luxurious.

The Elkhorn Village Pool opens May 23rd, and the Harker Center Pool opens June 13th for Elkhorn amenity pass holders.

The best part? Several Michael’s Vacation Rentals properties include access to resort amenities — meaning the pool is essentially your backyard.

Guided Horseback Rides | Open June 6

Some of the best views in the Wood River Valley aren’t from a summit or a ski lift — they’re from the back of a horse, moving at the pace the valley deserves. Sun Valley’s guided trail rides wind through open meadows, pine forests, and mountain terrain with experienced guides leading the way. It’s unhurried, it’s beautiful, and it’s one of those Sun Valley experiences that guests come back for year after year. Staying with a Sun Valley Resort Recreation Pass? You’ll receive 15% off one-hour guided rides.

Ballet Sun Valley | June 27 & 28

Two nights. Two programs. One of the most beautiful outdoor venues you’ll ever sit in. Ballet Sun Valley’s 2026 festival features Pacific Northwest Ballet across June 27 & 28, including a World Premiere from choreographer Jessica Lang. Each evening is its own experience — different program, different energy — but both set against the kind of Idaho summer sky that makes everything feel more alive. New to ballet? This is the best possible introduction.

July 4th Riverfest | Hailey — Hop Porter Park

The whole valley heads to Hailey for the Fourth – and for good reason. The Hailey Days of the Old West parade is the Wood River Valley’s beloved July 4th tradition, drawing crowds from Ketchum and Sun Valley down the valley for a morning of floats, horses, and small-town charm. After the parade, the party moves to Hop Porter Park for FREE live music from the Kilgor Boys and Bronwyn Keith-Hynes, food trucks, hot rods, local beer, bouncy houses, and genuine community energy that makes this one of Idaho’s best Fourth of July celebrations.
