Sun Valley Winter Vacation Activities

sun valley resort skiiers in winterSun Valley, Idaho offers many winter activities for visitors, thrill-seekers, and families alike.  There is something for everyone to enjoy. The ski resort that has made the valley famous is just the beginning of the fun in this winter wonderland.

For those looking for excitement and adventure, there are Backcountry Snowmobile tours offered at the nearby Smiley Creek Lodge, and in the winter the Bigwood Golf Course becomes a network of trails for Fat Tire bikes, which can be rented at the Golf Course clubhouse.

For more family-friendly activities, try ice skating at the Sun Valley Lodge or at Atkinson Park.  You can head up to Galena lodge where there are miles of trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.  There is also an extensive network of cross-country trails just outside the village. Another great activity for the family is sledding.  This can be done just about anywhere in the valley, but some of the best spots are Penny Hill and Galena Lodge.

If these activities don’t peak your interest, don’t worry.  Sun Valley has much more to offer during your winter vacation!  There are a variety of fine dining options for you to explore. The Ram steakhouse is the oldest operating restaurant in Sun Valley (established in 1937). With high ratings and lots of locally sourced dishes, they are a time-tested choice. For something a little more trendy, head down to Enoteca for some fine Italian cuisine, which is accompanied by an impressive wine list.  And after dinner, be sure to visit Konditerei for dessert, the Austrian-style bakery, which offers a variety of freshly baked treats and hot drinks.

If you fancy yourself an art connoisseur, join an art walk through the many galleries located in the Sun Valley Village.  These monthly meet-and-greet events with the artists give you the opportunity to see and experience works by contemporary artists, as well as works by some of the most famous artists of all time including Picasso, Matisse, and Chagall.
